The Research Executive Agency (REA) has published the results of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships 2023 call, which closed on 13 September 2023.
From 8039 submitted proposals to this call, REA will fund 1249 postdoctoral researchers with a budget of €260 million. This corresponds to a success rate of 15.8%.
The successful 2023 MSCA postdoctoral fellows represent nearly 80 nationalities and will carry out their research in 45 different countries around the globe. 42% of the awardees are women. The distribution of projects across evaluation panels is as follows:
- Social sciences and humanities (25.2%)
- Life sciences (21.7%)
- Information sciences and engineering (13.3%)
- Chemistry (14.4%)
- Physics (11.35%)
- Environment and geosciences (10.2%)
- Mathematics (2.15%)
- Economic sciences (1.7%)

Successful MSCA PF 2023 proposals submitted with UK host organisations will be funded under the UK Horizon Europe Guarantee, as all Horizon Europe 2023 calls remain implemented under the transitional measures. The UKRI Je-S submission system is expected to open on 26 February 2024.
UKRO understands that out of the 1111 proposals submitted with UK host organisations, 244 proposals were successful. This corresponds to a UK-specific success rate of 21.9%, if calculated in terms of submitted proposals with a UK host institution.
As reported by UKRO previously, last year’s call saw a UK success rate of 17.7% after 207 proposals were successful out of the 1167 proposals submitted with UK host organisations in 2022.

REA has confirmed that all results of the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship 2023 call have now officially been announced, with letters sent to all applicants informing them of the outcome.
The next call for MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships will open on 10 April 2024. The UK will be fully eligible to host fellows as an Associated Country and receive funding directly from the European Commission.
